Microsoft – European institutions are being hacked

Over the past few days, multiple reporting suggests that cyber attacks are being directed at European institutions – government, think tanks, and non-profits.

Why is this notable? Soon, millions of Europeans will head to the polls to cast their ballots in the European Parliament elections along with several key national elections, says Tom Burt, Microsoft’s Corporate VP for Customer Security and Trust.

AccountGuard is Microsoft’s answer and the company has offered it to a total of fourteen countries’ political candidates, parties and campaign officers as well as think tanks, non-profits and NGOs. AccountGuard provides notification of cyber threats, including attacks by known nation-state actors, across both email systems run by organizations and the personal accounts of these organizations’ leaders and staff.
