One response to fake news is to systematically go about identifying and labeling it. The how to go about it (methodology) is a critical detail in this endeavor.
The University of Oxford’s Computational Propaganda lab unveiled their Junk News Aggregator yesterday. This work was funded by the European Research Council through the grant, Computational Propaganda: Investigating the Impact of Algorithms and Bots on Political Discourse in Europe. Junk news and the methodology are defined here. I’m including their disclaimer as well: This aggregator identifies “junk news” sites based on a grounded typology tested in several scientific studies conducted by the COMPROP research group. It reflects our scientific opinion and evaluation (the basis of opinion is described in our methodology), and does not necessarily reflect the views of our funders or the University of Oxford. |
