Getting the public to recognize the threat of disinformation

A pair of articles identify the necessity of getting the public involved in recognizing the threat of disinformation and the need to proactively protect democratic values.  There is a price to be paid to take the steps necessary to protect our infrastructure and to highlight the threat of misinformation and those that would propagate misinformation in order to divide our populations.  The Australian Strategic Policy Institute article correctly identifies the necessity to pay that price now in order to protect ourselves from future threats in the information environment.  When misinformation is dividing our society, it will be too late to take these steps.  The New Statesman article correctly identifies the threats to western democratic values but fails to identify the steps that could be taken to protect us.

Both articles address cognitive security and well worth the short read.
