With the creation in 2019 of the new 16th Air Force, the first Information Warfare (IW) numbered force in the military service, U.S. Air Force organizations are rolling out a series of live exercises and training programs aimed at increasing proficiency around the “convergence” of global intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, cyber, electronic warfare, and information operations.
C4ISRNet reported on May 19 that the Air Force had held its first 10 IW “proof of concept” exercises in New Mexico and that the service has also created the first initial skills training course for its information operators. Expect these types of efforts to increase as the military grows its cadre of information warriors and increases support and connectivity with air operations, say Air Force leaders.
