Information Professionals Association Honors Lieutenant Colonel Brian D. Bevan with the Order of Hermes (Silver)
The Information Professionals Association (IPA) proudly announces that Lieutenant Colonel Brian D. Bevan has been awarded the Order of Hermes (Silver) in recognition of his distinguished career and exceptional contributions to Information Operations, military deception, and the advancement of the information profession. The award recognizes individuals whose sustained leadership, innovation, and service have made a lasting impact on cognitive security and the Information Operations community.
Bevan has dedicated his career to advancing Information Operations across tactical, operational, and strategic levels. During deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, he served as an Information Operations officer for both battalion and brigade combat teams, where he integrated Information Related Capabilities into military operations, advised commanders on the information environment, and partnered with Afghan military and government officials to strengthen communications and counter adversary influence. His innovative planning and operational leadership helped shape information campaigns that supported mission success and enhanced situational awareness across the battlespace.
Following his operational assignments, Bevan continued to expand the Army’s Information Operations capabilities through leadership positions with the 1st Information Operations Command. As a Field Support Team leader, Information Operations planner, and later operations officer for the Information Operations Field Support Detachment, he planned and synchronized Information Operations support for combatant commands, mentored emerging planners, and strengthened partnerships across the Joint Force and interagency community. His expertise and leadership established him as a trusted advisor to senior commanders and a recognized authority in the Information Operations profession.
From 2020 to 2025, Bevan served as the Department of the Army civilian course manager for the Army Deception Planners’ Course (ADPC), one of the Army’s premier deception education programs. As one of the course’s original developers, he led the creation of a comprehensive curriculum that has educated more than 1,200 soldiers, civilians, contractors, and interagency professionals through more than 50 course iterations, including multiple Mobile Training Teams supporting operational requirements worldwide. His work significantly advanced the Army’s military deception education and ensured the capability remained relevant to modern large-scale combat operations.
Beyond the classroom, Bevan played a leading role in shaping the future of military deception doctrine. As the Army’s representative to the Global Deception and Denial Development Working Group and a recognized deception subject matter expert, he contributed to the development and review of key doctrine and policy publications, including Army Doctrine Publication 3-13, Information and Army Techniques Publication 3-13.4, Army Support to Military Deception. His recommendations strengthened Army doctrine and helped ensure future deception planning would remain aligned with evolving operational challenges.
Throughout his career, Bevan has demonstrated a consistent commitment to excellence, mentorship, and professional development. His operational achievements, educational leadership, and doctrinal contributions have left a lasting legacy within the Information Operations community and continue to influence military professionals across the Department of Defense.
